Logo Creation: Mistakes and Solutions Designers Make

Creative and meaningful logos attract viewer's attention positively even on the first time they see a corporate logo. An attractive design distinguishes companies from one another by the way it promotes its company with the use of its logo. However, most of the time clients and even designers overlook the importance of creating a good logo just to finish a project--end of conversation.
As a designer creating a personal brand and identity for an important client, you must always look forward on producing good logos and not just a finished product. Every project is significant in your creative career as you relate your work to your client’s needs. Moreover, there are many negative characteristics designers have when loads of projects come barging in. Here are some common undesirable attitudes designer encounters when creating logos.
  • The Lazy: One of the most common attitudes of designers that can reflect logo making is setting aside research; following own set of rules and designing without briefing on factors needed in terms of the whole design. The logo produced may not relate to what the clients offer, missing the mark of knowing the target audience and even the goal of the company.
  • The Followers: Designers are eager to know the latest trends, adapt to it and create something more out of what is "in" when it comes to designs. Try to ignore the latest trends and create something unique that can adopt through different times.
  • The Self-centered: Client's ideas and point of views are important when creating their company logo. Designing for yourself and not considering needs and wants of your clients can be the biggest mistake that you can make. It is a fact that your design is your idea, each and every detail is important for you. Nevertheless, it is critical to be unselfish at this point; consider the needs and understanding of your client's target market and not your personal views.
  • Typeface Overload: Another mistake that negatively reflects the company's image is the use of many font typefaces. A logo is the company’s signature; make sure that it is simple and easy to understand even in the first look.
  • The Stock Art lover: Copyright in designs are very important to the point that you cannot use used images or free graphics and own it. Companies and designers need inspiration that is why looking for some creative output can be helpful but not to the point that you will imitate it and download stock images and use it as if you own it.
  • The Copy Cat: Aside from downloading stock images, it is very important to have an original and unique approach when designing your own logo. Avoid using the same font, color, graphic and styles of other logo used by different companies. Other brands may become famous because of its aesthetic features, but it does not mean that you can adapt to it, use their logo and say that you own it.

Rather than wasting your time doing mistakes previously listed done by some designers for some time now, you might want to create a logo with these attitudes in mind:
  • The Researcher: Have time to research and know more about the client. In this way, a logo can positively represent who your client is, in a more creative and innovative style. Consider the factors on getting information about the business, the competitors and most especially the target market.
  • The Trendsetter: Being unique means creating a design trend that does not exist but can catch the attention of other people and other designers. However, you cannot really determine if a certain design is a trend, but at least you did not try to adapt with such design just to be in. You are setting your own trend for your client, where in designs are personally made considering all facts and ideas from your client merging your creative juices with it.
  • The Selfless: Wearing the shoes of the client's target audiences is the best knowledge learned and practiced by a good designer. It can manage how customers see a logo. Creating a logo considering the taste of their clients is a good thing, but it can be an edge if you know the target and do it not only with your own self-centred ideas.
  • Limited Typeface: One to two kinds of font can be attractive. As they say, too much information is enough already so do not try to overwhelm them with too much visual interpretation using different fonts. Make sure that fonts are appropriate to the design of the logo.
  • The Legit: Have you seen images from one company to another competitor? It is very important to have your own legitimate photos and graphic in creating a logo. Avoid using stock images that might ruin the reputation you build for your clients.
  • The Original: Imaginative mind of designers lead them into a more unique and original kind of logo design especially when all information are gathered properly. In addition, not copying the work of others can produce more creative and inventive kind of designs that can positively represent your clients business.

CONCLUSION:
A lot of mistakes that designers make and attitude in designing can reflect to the whole process of creating a good design. In terms of finding creative designers, clients are looking forward to someone who can handle their branding and identity in a positive way and with positive attitude.
